DINOvember is back at the library

They’re back! Dinosaurs are taking over and wreaking havoc at the Maryville Public Library. Watch for posts on FB about all the trouble they cause (based on the book What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night). Do you have dinosaurs making trouble at your house too? Email pictures to youthcoordinator@maryvillepubliclibrary.org and we will do a gallery post at the end of the month. Also, dinosaurs will be available to play with in the youth area along with some simple activities. This is also where the kits can be picked up beginning November 6.

DINOvember also has lots of activities available including:

November 6 – Dino kits available for preK-grade 6. Kit contains small parts appropriate for ages 3 and up.

November 7 – Bedtime and pajamas storytime and 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten graduation at 5:30 pm. This is not dinosaur themed, but still a roaring good time! Join as as we talk, sing, read, write and play. Best suited for ages birth to 5 and their caregivers. There is no cost to the participants for this event. Kids and parents may wear their pjs if they choose. Registration appreciated for this evening event. Click here: https://forms.gle/4Jdf17z6TcdscPoo7 or call 582-5281.

November 14 – Food and Cooking storytime. 9:45 am. Birth – age 5. We will have a guest from Maryville’s Parents As Teachers, Erin Pohren, bringing information and an activity.

November 16 – TAB Lab Art Experience at 5 pm. Grades 3-6. Registration required. https://forms.gle/fbLYxuTbx7r7D8xG8

TAB LAB experiences will begin with a librarian reading a selected children’s book.  Then kids will choose a prompt provided by Northwest’s art education pre-service teachers and select a studio area they want to explore such as painting, drawing, collage, sculpture, ceramics, etc.  The children will go to the studio area of their choice and produce art with the support of a Northwest pre-service art teacher under the supervision of Northwest Assistant Professor of Art Dyan Akkouche.  Northwest art education students will provide examples of art, including those representing a diversity of cultures and perspectives.

Artworks produced by students will be featured online or in the gallery section of the Maryville Public Library.  This experience will be documented and written about as research on TAB methodology by Professor Dyan Akkouche.

Parents are asked to stay at the library while children participate in the TAB LAB experience and let their child work independently on their art projects.

November 21 – Lego Club – Grades preK-6. Registration required. Click here: https://forms.gle/e9vJhPjMDcn8dQjC8 or call 582-5281. We supply the Legos and the theme and kids supply the imagination.
