Library’s new policy eliminates fine accrual but uses earlier blocks to encourage prompt returns

In an effort to serve our community more effectively, Maryville Public Library is in the process of revising our borrowing policy.

Effective immediately, Maryville Public Library will no longer be charging daily fines for  overdue materials.

Please note: For overdue materials, library accounts within a household will be blocked for any item two or more days overdue. This block is intended to encourage prompt return or renewal of loaned items in lieu of daily fine accrual.  (Please note: additional days are added to accommodate the library’s  quarantine process, so that as long as all of your household’s items are returned on time, library service should not be interrupted.)

For items 30 days overdue, a replacement fee will be added to the patron’s account, along with a $10 administrative fee (per card).

For an optimum library experience, and to avoid a blocked account, we recommend patrons keep good habits of returning or renewing all materials promptly by the due date. Good ideas we’ve seen include keeping your receipt of items borrowed handy and managing your account online by logging in to the library’s catalog page with your card number and phone number.
