Youth Tech Connect is back for the spring

Youth Tech Connect is again hosting monthly clubs for kids 8 years and up.   In Youth Tech Connect kids have the opportunity to explore and experiment with various technologies on the second Thursday of every month from 5:30-6:30PM.  We hope this new format allows children to explore different types of technology in a creative and fun environment.

Bloxels are one of the newer tech pieces that the library has invested in.  Hands-on blocks are used to build backgrounds, characters and more that are then transferred to the Bloxels app.  Once in the app, kids can use their creations to develop their own games (think Super Mario style levels).  Using the Bloxels app, kids become writers, designers and animators to create their own games.  The creative possibilities are endless.

Other tech that we have on hand include LittleBits which are electronic building blocks that promote sequencing and logic skills.  Kids turn circuits into inventions.  For more coding based technology, we have Osmo, which uses a game format to help develop spatial cognitive skills, problem-solving and logic skills.

Scratch Jr. and Swift Playgrounds are both standards that have been used and loved by local kids since we began the technology programming in 2018.  Scratch and Scratch Jr. allow kids to begin learning with simple drag-and-drop blocks while Swift Playgrounds begins the same way but quickly has kids learning how to use the real Swift coding language.  The Swift language was created by Apple and is used in real-world app development.

Youth Tech Connect offers many opportunities for kids to try these different technologies and help prepare them for the ever-expanding tech future that awaits them in schools and jobs.  Kids can work solo or with a friend, depending on the activity and their preference.  Sign-up is not required.  Any questions?  Reach out to Kelsey at or by calling the library at 660-582-5281.

Youth Tech Connect for the spring of 2020 is scheduled for January 9, February 13, March 12, April 9 and May 14.
