Local Author Book Fair set for December 14; author applications are due Dec. 4.

In an effort to support our mission to help Maryville citizens succeed, the Maryville Public Library will be hosting the first annual Maryville Local Author Fair on Saturday, December 14 from 1-3 p.m. The event will give local published authors a venue at which to showcase and sell their books in time for Christmas, as well as provide local aspiring authors a chance to learn more about finding success in writing and selling their own books.

Requirements and guidelines for interested authors:

Date of Fair:  Saturday, December 14, 2019. Library opens at 9 a.m. for check in and setup.   Applications are due to the library in person or via email at     admin@maryvillepubliclibrary.org by December 4, 2019.

Author must be based in Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, or Nebraska and provide bound, print copies of their book to sell at the fair.  Books of all genres and intended audiences are welcome.

Due to space requirements, the library cannot guarantee all applicants will be accepted.  Priority may be given to authors currently residing in Maryville or Nodaway County.  Perceived quality of product will also be considered.  Notification of acceptance will be provided to the applicant by email or phone by December 6.

Authors are restricted to selling only the books listed on their application. Authors must  procure their own books, determine their own pricing, manage their own sales, and collect and report sales tax to the State of Missouri in accordance with State law.

Participants will be provided at least one 5’-6’ long table. Table assignments will be provided at check-in.  Authors are welcome to bring items such as tablecloths, book stands, signage, fliers, bookmarks, business cards, and small giveaway items, as long as each display is sturdy, safe, clean, compliant with, appropriate for all ages, and kept within the space designated. Authors may not adhere anything to walls, windows, doors, or library furnishings.  Each author is responsible for setup and takedown of their own display materials between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. the day of the fair.  The Library is not responsible for any lost or damaged items and cannot store items or inventory beyond the day of the fair.
